BlackBerry Unveils Cheaper, DTEK50 Android Phone

Blackberry has launched its first Android touchscreen handset on Tuesday, a strategy to diversify its range of devices and will cost less than its previous smartphone.

The company comes out with DTEK50 and says its hoping the smartphone will records high sales than the Priv; its first smartphone using the Android operating system which has suffered because of its high price, resulting in low customers patronage and acceptability.

The Dtek50 is a touchscreen-only device, without the physical keyboard often associated with Blackberry.

The company said the touchscreen-only DTEK50 will cost $299 in the United States, Canada and across Europe.

Blackberry released its first Android smartphone in 2015. But the Priv - a large touchscreen device with a slide-out keyboard - came with a premium price tag (£579 in the UK) that put some people off.

A third Android device is expected from BlackBerry in coming months.
