Its official! Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is in Lagos, Nigeria. The easy going tech billionaire didn't make his trip a loud affair and on Tuesday, pictures of him surprisingly circulated on Social Media sites of his presence.
But what exactly could have brought an Iconic tech executive to Nigeria?
"I'll be meeting with developers, and entrepreneurs, and learning about startup ecosystem." Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
Firstly, Zuckerberg visited the Co-Creation hub (CcHub) innovation center in Yaba, Lagos where he met and talked with kids undergoing a summer coding camp in learning to build and launch their own apps.
He's next visit was at Andela, a software developer firm, where he invested $24Million in January 2016 with his wife's foundation; Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative.
Added to Zuckerberg's visit yesterday was stopping by at the Facebook Express Wi-Fi, Lagos (a tech initiative designed to give internet access to communities) where he met Rosemary Njoku at her stand, a local entrepreneur who uses the initiatives to run her business and provide internet connectivity to over 3,000 customers, thereby making revenue from the Express Wi-Fi.
In the past, there has been Facebook related development in Nigeria. His visits his a demonstration of his supports for Nigeria's tech entrepreneurs and his interest in seeing tech on the continent grow. The Facebook founder pointed out that is in Nigeria to take ideas back to California and he loves the energy and also how they can support tech development and entrepreneurship in Africa.
However, in his usual trademark visit, Mark Zuckerberg is expected to hold an hour-long Facebook townhall and Q & A sessions on Wednesday.

That's a great for Nigeria. Having such a caliber of Mark in the country, I hope it will bring more benefits for the country.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how this guy is going around the world doing worthy projects with his money. I wish that more billionaires would also spend even a small percentage of their wealth on such worthy causes everywhere in the world.
