Before now, I was thinking corruption issues could be best
combated from the apex and from there down to the grassroots.
Now, I've realized my ignorance and I now make bold to
assert that indeed corruption has engulfed the holistic ramifications of the
base of our society.
In my new area, which I initially thought would be a haven,
I've seen a lot and I feel compelled to share my experience in recent time with
the hope that relevant stakeholders will come to the aid of my people. Before I
proceed with my rhetoric, I want to ask if there's anything a government can do
with the issue of moral decadence. Is government contributing to it in anyway?
My area is outrightly polluted with “thuggery”, “whoredom”, “yahooism”, “teetotallerism”
is taken to be incivility and you are heavily criticized for acting like pastors
or Alfas. We actually celebrate the ready-to-spend guys but we don't care much
about the source of their wealth. Politicians come around seldom and all our
youths do is to get banners ready to welcome these august visitors they vote to
the exalted seats. Our fun-loving ladies are used as instructions of libido
improvement but we don't seem to see anything wrong with that. Girls within the age range of 12-15 are already classic "oloshos" (Runs girls).
I did my survey and I observe that most of my people think
there's no place for them in their fatherland. They told me they are already
cynical because no one cares about them. They said they've lost interest in our
country and some of them even proposed that a re-colonization is better. In
short, my people have already lost their hopes. They told me that those who
engage in legal business don't make it faster but knowing the shortest route is
the solution. Some ladies told me that making love without love but for the sake
of money isn't a bad idea since there's no meter reading the frequency of their
sexual activities. I become hopeless and I then realize that there's great fire
on the mountain.
The echelon of leadership in politics and organizations
together in our country is dominated by elderly people. Are my friends and neighborhood mates ready to
take up any of these positions when the opportunity comes?
Is there any hope for them?
One thing is clear from my epistle; my people think the
government careless about them. They don't consider themselves as integral part
of their own society. They feel alienated and deserted in their own home. The
government must come up with strategic plans to re-orientate my people, convince
them that they are important and there's a place for them too in their country.
Let the government fulfill their promises and be ready to embark on
refurbishment of the political and economic structures built on vain promises
and angelic lies. Let the government guarantee my people all the rights they
are entitled to by the virtue of their citizenship. Government should associate
with my people and stop playing on their impoverished conditions. The
increasing immoderation of the working class is unjustifiable!
Let's make this country the best place to live for us and
our children's children. My people must be remembered and my people must be
ready to rewire their orientation too.

I believe that this country will change for better.
I believe there's a better place for my people back there in
the slum!
