Today, Google added eight new categories and renamed two others, meaning apps will be better sorted into the relevant category, which will hopefully result in users being able to find what they're looking for quicker and easier.
New Play Store categories:
- Art & Design
- Auto & Vehicles
- Beauty
- Dating
- Events
- Food & Drink
- House & Home
- Parenting
Google has launched Family Library for Google Play allowing up to six family members to share purchases including apps, games, movies, television shows, and books for free.
All purchases made through the Google Play Store and added to the Family Library are now made available across Android devices, with movies, television shows, and books also available on iOS devices, as well as the web.
The company said users will be able to choose what items they want shared between the family, with options to block children from accessing certain content.
When a user signs up they will be required to select a credit card to share as the family payment method, with the option to place a payment approval on accounts for members such as children.
The two renamed categories are 'Transportation' and 'Media and Video,' changing to 'Maps & Navigation' and 'Video Players & Editors.'
Google says in its blog post that these categories will be available within 60 days in the following countries Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
It also provides details of how interested developers can move apps over to the new categories.
