Uber, a popular online taxi hailing service has announced it is trialing cash payments in Lagos, following users’ request for the payment option.
This is how it works;
1. Open up the app and go to the menu in the top left corner and select Payment tab
2. Select ‘CASH’ as your payment option
3. Request for a ride
4. Confirm your pick-up location and payment method
5. Before you get out, pay the amount shown directly to the driver – No haggling required!
Users who do not see the cash option need not worry. This is because the cash payment is a phased experiment. The option will roll out gradually over the next few weeks.
“The interest in Uber in Lagos has been amazing, and we are excited to experiment with cash payments on our platform. Uber riders in Lagos already have access to a reliable, convenient and safe transportation so paying by cash means even more people can enjoy this,” Uber stated on its blog.
To make the trial a successful one, users are expected to take rides and share their feedback with Uber Lagos at support.lagos@uber.com or Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #UberCashLagos.

Lagos is only the eighth place in the world where cash payment is available across the over 364 cities where Uber is available.
